Jerry was the owner of one of the largest sport centers in the Houston area for many years, The Houston Boat and
Sport Center. The Center was involved in the sale of new boats and accessories. The business included an
established service center for fiberglass boat repair and motor service. In 1987, he relocated to Conroe, Texas and
has an established fiberglass boat repair business and boat brokerage sales with over 42 years of experience in the field.
Promotional
Jerry campaigns the boat across the country, supports and promotes the sport in many areas. He annually displays the
boat at the Houston International Boat Show and the Championship Autorama Show. Jerry is the administrator of these two
events. The promotion includes the finest of area drag boats. The display attracts large crowds with the use of race videos
and handout information on racing which is distributed throughout the event. Jerry is also active in recognized charity
benefits and sponsor events.
Where it all started
Jerry started working on race boats in the late 60's. It all started when Jim and Irene Kizer persuaded Jerry  to go to one
of the boat races. Jerry immediately got the fever. He started racing in the Ski Jet 1 Circle Jet Boat class and eventually
moved into the Ski Jet 2 class. From there, he moved into the Comp Flat class. In 1977, Jerry bought his first Hondo T-DR
Flat bottom and began racing in the Modified Stock class. From there, Jerry went to Comp Flat with the same boat, winning
several High Points Championships. In 1984, Jerry bought the Black Rushin, renamed it The War Party 556 and began
racing in the Blown Alcohol Flat class. He won another High Points Championship in 1988. Jerry crashed the War Party 556
in 1989 at the Texas Shoot Out (in Waco, Texas) on a Record Backup attempt. A broken propeller ear was the cause of the
crash. In 1990, Jerry and Nancy bought a Mako Flat bottom and began the rebuilding process. In mid - 1991, Jerry was badly
burned from an explosion at his shop and had to sit out the driving chores until  the Phoenix, Az. race in November 1991.
During the Phoenix race, Jerry blew the motor. During this same time, they were contemplating buying a capsule, but with
the blown motor, they opted for a motor which they purchased from Clinton Anderson for the 1992 season. As most of you
boat racing enthusiasts know, their first run in Ft Worth resulted in a major crash in which Jerry sustained serious injuries.
While recuperating, Jim Ermshar made the necessary changes on the boat and a Denver's Capsule was installed by Mondo.
As far as we know, no one has come back to race after enduring such serious injuries. However, Jerry did come back as the
driver and won SDBA High Points awards in 1994 and again in 1997, along with winning TAF Runner Up at the World Finals
in Phoenix against the Flatzilla Racing Team. They won the World Championship in 1998 and was Runner Up in 2000.
Painted on the deck of the boat is "Saved by the Grace of God". Jerry was saved by the Grace of God and was able to come
back and race again.
Jerry's Personal Views and Opinions

What do I love to do:

Win Championships and drive a TAF

What is most important to me in racing:

SAFETY! - SAFETY! - SAFETY!
How do I feel we can promote Drag Boat Racing:
TV coverage first and foremost, and advertising (radio, signs,  handouts, local neighborhood newspapers) to the fullest in and around the sites where we race,
including other venues available to all of us such as car shows, boat shows, the workplace, bowling
alleys, ect.
Who do I want to thank:
Nancy, first of course, for her continued support and dedication to our racing efforts. The Racer's Emergency
Support Program ( RESP ), Racers for Christ ( RFC ), our
entire crew, our sponsors, and all of those dedicated fans!
